Bucharest National Opera, in partnership with the Permanent Delegation of Romania to UNESCO, organized “Povestea Iei” (The Magic Blouse/La blouse enchantée) – a complex and original multimedia show dedicated to the 160th anniversary of Romanian Diplomacy. The show was also a celebration of Romania’s National Day. And, of course, a way to promote the Romanian culture encapsulated in the “ie” – the traditional Romanian blouse, with its wide sleeves, traditional motifs, and bright, natural colours.
The show “Povestea Iei/La blouse enchantée/The Magic Blouse” had two parts, one orchestral and one choreographic. The introductory orchestral program was focused on highlighting traditional Romanian musical values in various arrangements, with pieces such as “Hora mărțișorului” or “Romanian songs” by Tiberiu Brediceanu, and “Six Romanian dances” by Béla Bàrtok. The songs were interpreted by the Bucharest National Opera Orchestra (conductor Daniel Jinga) and the soprano Teodora Gheorghiu, directed by Alexandru Nagy.
There was also a dance performance by Gigi Caciuleanu, on the original music composed especially for this theme by Dan Dediu, one of the most important names of the current Romanian composing area. The scenography, costumes and visual space were designed by Viorica Petrovici, projection design Dilmana Yordanova, light design Cristian Simon, choreography assistant Lelia Marcu-Vladu.
The project emerged from an idea of Ovidiu Miculescu. It was performed in Paris, on 23 November 2022, at the UNESCO Grand Auditorium in Paris.
