Teodora Gheorghiu performed Verdi’s “Requiem” at Arsenal de Metz

At the time of its creation, the theatrical and “belcantist” aspect of Verdi’s “Requiem” had been the subject of controversy, summed up by the unfortunately famous words of the Wagnerian conductor Hans de Bülow: “an opera in an ecclesiastical dress.”
In fact, Verdi wrote a masterpiece of sacred music of universal value – on the same level as the Requiems written by Mozart, Brahms, Berlioz … or Bach’s Passions.

And Teodora Gheorghiu just performed Verdi’s “Requiem” at Arsenal de Metz.
