A resounding success tonight in the opening of the season at the Musee de l ‘Armee in Paris in the famous Saint-Louis des Invalides Cathedral.
Many thanks to all those who were with us in Paris, for Verdi’s Requiem – a superb work composed in memory of Alessandro Manzoni, whom Verdi admired and with whom the composer shared the same ideal of humanity and justice. The first performance took place at the renowned San Marco church in Milan, on 22 May 1874, and marked the first anniversary of Manzoni’s death.
Equally famous, the Saint-Louis Cathedral sits at the heart of the Hôtel des Invalides and, enriched by this wonderful music, enabled visitors to step back in time in a splendid setting.
The Orchestre National de Metz, the Chœur de l’Orchestre de Paris and a prestigious quartet of soloists conducted by the american Scott Yoo offered the public one of the most important works of the sacred repertoire. T
